The bitter pills
Why is it that all communities have some people that are only there to make noice?
I have stopped using BeShare a long time ago, as a few people more or less spend their days in the channel telling others how bad Zeta is. Some of the same people has also entered the BeClan scene and started talking badly about some of the project that are done there. The latest was that some of them also joined BeBits as moderators, to continue their crusade against their own community there.
Why?
Why can’t these guys just leave the community, leave us all alone? We are quite satisfied with Zeta, the developers that are working on BeClan projects, the software that are published over at BeBits, and the news that the various news sites bring us.
If you still want to hang around, then try to help out on some of the things that you think are wrong, can be improved or new features that should be added. At least explain WHY and WHAT is wrong. And, before talking badly about someone’s code, have a look at your own developer profile over at BeBits. Do you have one? If not, what gives you the right to criticize the few developers around still believing in BeOS and one of it’s distros?
For the ones talking badly about yellowTAB and Zeta: Yes, Zeta is a distro with an improved Tracker, some new drivers and some improved applications. It continues down the path of BeOS. What was BeOS R5 compared to R4? Answer: An improved Tracker, some new drivers and some improved applications. Isn’t that what we all want? An improved OS, a continued development of our OS? But there’s more, yellowTAB also tries to add some ideas of it’s own and features that we see in other OSes, in a Zeta / BeOS way. Some have made jokes of the improved USB support in Zeta, but here’s what: Zeta has a fully working USB 1.1 and 2.0, which opens up a new world for us, the end-users. Imagine how many new cool devices that can be supported in the future?
OpenBeOS is far from completed, and they have quite some work in front of them before they have a working R5 clone. Zeta is making use of parts of OpenBeOS, and more will probably be added as time goes by. But where will Zeta be when OpenBeOS reaches R1? And when OpenBeOS reaches R2? Well, nobody knows the answer. That depends on YOU. Can you contribute with something for Zeta and OpenBeOS? Do you want to spend money on Zeta?
But please, what ever you conclude with, don’t go around telling others what to do. Rather make up your own mind and let others do the same!
