I recently bought my first digital camera. I has always been against it, and told everyone that I prefer having the photos I take on paper. But the camera that I bought is just impressive, and I have no problems using it under Zeta, MacOS X or Linux. I have been taking several hundreds picture this summer. A lot of fun has been captured, but they still remain to be printed to paper. Yes, I still want to have pictures organized in books on the shelf! I don’t want to see my pictures from a monitor, but today I read that Agfa is selling their consumer imaging section for 175.5 million Euros, and I guess that it is just a question of time before I will have to do that. But the world is turning more and more digital.

A new company that will operate under the name AgfaPhoto will continue to serve all of Consumer Imaging’s markets and customers worldwide. AgfaPhoto is a private company, owned by NannO Beteiligungsholding, the management and two minority shareholders, Abrams Capital and Highfields Capital, both US based institutional investors.

Agfa will conclude a licensing agreement allowing AgfaPhoto to use the Agfa brand for photo film products for an unlimited period of time. Agfa will focus on its core growth markets of Graphic Systems and HealthCare, which are rapidly going digital.

Yet another chapter in the analog history has been closed. I wonder how long the new company will be in the market, and who will be next out? The world is turning digital. I can’t even remember when I got read of my cassette player and bought the first CD player. It’s still in daily use at my parents place. The VCR was early changed to LaserDisc and three years ago I bought my first DVD Player. I don’t have an analog radio in the house anymore, I have been using DAB for more then a year now. The analog phone went out early this year, and I use a VoIP phone instead. I still guess that I will have to keep the analog TV for some years, but read a bit about the digital broadcasting that has started in Germany. When will we start in Norway? What price will the TVs have?
