Digital TV one step closer to realisation in Norway
Norges televisjon – which is a joint venture between TV 2 and NRK – has been founded with a view to gaining a licence to run the digital terrestrial network for the television of the future in Norway. NRK today opened their digital text TV.
We have all been using Text TV the last 10 years. Some of us have even stopped using it, cause of it’s limitations as a media.
NRK has today started broadcasting the next generation Text TV, the so called MHP services. You can now as before look through text news, but later also live updated weather forecasts and sport results, with the TV program running in the background.
This is not groundbreaking, YLE and MTV3 in Finland were the first to introduce MHP (Multimedia Home Platform) services, SVT in Sweden and some broadcasters in Germany, Italy, Spain and France have later started with the same technology.
The solution reminds me a lot of TiVo and MythTV.
