I have always been building my own computers, and was a little bit shocked when I read this in digi.no:

An upgrade of the motherboard is considered to result in a new personal computer to which Microsoft® OEM operating system software cannot be transferred from another computer. If the motherboard is upgraded or replaced for reasons other than a defect, then a new computer has been created and the license of new operating system software is required“.

I have not ran any Microsoft products on my own desktop computer so far, there have not been any reason to. The new OEM license will not effect me in any way. It’s just telling me that the decission I took about starting to use alternative operating systems was right. I will still continue to use Ubuntu and ZETA.
