Something Must Be Wrong …
I am a frequent reader of Google talkabout, and today I came over some statistics over 3rd party clients with Gtalk support:
1. Gaim – 48% (Linux, BSD, MacOS X, and Windows)
2. iChat – 14% (MacOS X)
3. Trillian – 11% (Windows)
4. Adium – 8% (MacOS X)
5. Meebo – 6% (Linux, MacOS X, Windows and others)
6. Miranda – 6% (Windows)
7. Psi – 2% (Linux, MacOS X, and Windows)
8. Festoon – 2% (Windows)
9. Gush – 1% (Linux, MacOS X, and Windows)
10. fire – 1% (MacOS X)
(Google Talk and Gmail clients do not appear in this list)
But wait a minute (or two) … This just can’t be right … Where is the BeOS IM kit? My favourite of all IM solutions is not even on the list. Well, no wonder, but I would have loved to see more users trying it out! But Adium (available in Universal binary) is quite high on the list, my default IM client under MacOS X. There is even two clients that I have never heard of: Festoon and Gush. Festoon seems to be a quite so new IM client, and a real eyecandy. Gush is both a IM client and a newsreader. I am also a little bit surprised to see that Gtalkr is not on the list.
Psi and fire got uninstalled after a few minutes use, I didn’t like them at all, but that is perhaps just me.
