There has the last couple of days been several rumours about Nokia coming with a new 770 model. I am not sure … . Other that I might just want one now. The thing was probably is true in rumours is that Nokia is working with Google on bring Google Talk to the device as the default VoIP client. People has of course also then started discussing that Google now is making a port of Google Talk to Linux, once again I think they are wrong. The thing is that Nokia has a research department in Brazil working on a Google Talk client for Linux driven embedded devices, called Tapioca. I have written before about it for Linux desktop.

Instituto Nokia de Tecnologia / Nokia Institute of Technology (INdT) has been working on several Maemo applications, and would just be perfect for the job. Here’s what the write in the introduction of Tapioca:

Tapioca is a framework for Voice over IP (VoIP) and Instant Messaging (IM). Its main goal is to provide an easy way for developing and using VoIP and IM services in any kind of application. It was designed to be cross-platform, lightweight, thread-safe, having mobile devices and applications in mind.

Congratulations Google and Nokia. This seems to be a good recepy for success!
