Just before Eastern Fornyings- og administrasjonsdepartementet (FAD) with Røys in front sent out a pressrelease that they had continued the previous goverment’s work on looking in to the possibilities of making use of open document formats.

In practise Røys and the goverment only have two choices:

  • The most obvious of the two choices: The goverment can wait for Office 12, that is announced to be released by the end of this year. Today’s version of MS Office is capable of saving to XML, but the next release has been announced to have MS own new open format, Office Open XML. This format would be owned and maintained by MS.
  • The second choice is to go for the Open Document ISO-format. Which for the moment would probably cause a political earthquake.
