Ubuntu Edgy Eft is working great on my Thinkpad, except that my wireless card didn’t work. Well, I am happy to say until today. I googled quite a bit for a solution, and in the end I found in the blog of Roland Deier. Just as for him, lspci confirmed that my laptop had an Intel IPW3945 wireless device, and lsmod showed that the ipw3945 module was loaded.

So why on earth couldn’t I configure it?  No ipw3945d binary was running in userspace. Roland found that this simply could be fixed by installing the restricted modules package – linux-restricted-modules-generic, through apt-get / Synaptic Package Manager. After having installed this one package, I only had to reload the ipw3945 module and then eth1 showed up.
