Lotus iNotes Ultralite on my iPhone

Lotus iNotes Ultralite on my iPhone

IBM Lotus iNotes Ultralite. It is great to have access to an always updated calendar directly on my iPhone or iPod Touch. And because it is entirely browser based, there are no additional space or memory demands on your mobile device.

Our Domino server is just accessable from campus, but with the iPhone having an inbuilt Cisco VPN (as you can see on the screenshot), we can access our calendars, todos, corporate emails and address books any where :-)

Lotus iNotes Ultralite is really simple to use, and I rather use this version of iNotes, then the full featured one.

If you don’t have an iPhone yet, shame on you, but use Lotus Domino 8.0.2 at work, you can access the ultra lite version from your desktop browser by entering the URL address of your server:

http://<server.domain>/<mailfile path>/?OpenDatabase&ui=dwa_ulite

iNotes in Safari

Update – 2009-11-19: Luckily, the days were Lotus iNotes Ultralite was the best solution around, are over. You can now use Lotus Notes Traveler for iPhone / iPod Touch.

    Hi There,

I am very excited about using Ultralite as I have 3g Iphone. My organization’s normally uses BlackBerry and we are still on notes 7.0.2.

Can I use Ultralite on my Iphone with out my organization upgrading to the latest version? Coz they will not upgrade becoz of me and my IPhone. I would appreciate any comments on how do I access Notes from my Iphone.

    Hi lvaka,

the versioning is not related to Lotus Notes 7.0.2, which is the client software. But to what version of the server software your organization use, which need to be Lotus Domino 8.0.2 or newer.

I hope this clears it up.

    Hi Frank from Quebec City,

I have try Notes Pro and he work. But the is very simple interface. It’s better than webmail with safari mobile. I want to the difference with Notes Pro and iNotes Ultra-lite 8.0.2 please.

Also, in my entreprise we use Notes 6.5. Is it a good idea to begin with the Domino Web Access migration before the rest of the infrastructure (mail, hub, client)? The iPhone is a wish for the boss and the benefit to begin first with this is an option.

    Hi Mario157,

I am only maintaining the client side of the Lotus solution, and have limited with knowledge when it comes to the server side, Lotus Domino. I belive that you have to upgrade the server side to be able to enjoy iNotes Ultra lite. A new public beta of Domino 8.5.1 got released today with support for Active Sync!

I have not gotten Notes Pro to work properly, but my take is that only gives the same information as the Ultra lite version. But Notes Pro fully working gives you faster access to the information then when accessing the ultra lite web version through a browser.

I hope this is a good enough answer for you :-)

Can you indicate how I can get iNotes Ultralight on my iPhone?
To use it do I need to jailbrake my iPhone?

Hi, this is a webapplication running on the Domino server that you can access from the browser on the iPhone (Safari). It is not an application you install on the iPhone.

If you can get Lotus Notes webmail from any internet connected pc, then try going to that url from your iPhone and there's a chance that after you login from there, you'll see this web application automagically.
