calibre – ebook management application
I haven’t written about eBooks for a while, but I am still just as enthustiastic about it! Today I read on one of my favorite technews sites, Gizmodo, that an ebook management software was released. I have just had a quick look at it, and I must admit that I am impressed!
calibre is a ebook library management application, and can of course also be used as an ebook viewer. That means that it keeps track of all the ebooks you have bought or other wise downloaded for free. More impressively it can convert from a dozen different ebook formats to LRF and EPUB, among them PDF and mobi! I can also sync ebook files from calibre to my preferred reading. At the moment, calibre has support for the SONY PRS 500/505/700, Cybook Gen 3, Amazon Kindle (1 and 2) and the iPhone (with the stanza reader software). And just to top the whole thing: calibre can automatically fetch news from a number of websites/RSS feeds, format the news into a ebook and upload to a connected device. At the moment there is support for generating LRF/EPUB ebooks. The ebooks include the *full* versions of the articles, not just the summaries. This is a little bit problematic for me, as Cybook still doesn’t support EPUB. But as written before, EPUB support for Cybook is on it’s way.
Wow!!! And I was looking for that. Thanks Frank!!!
By the way, I am also a proud owner of Cybook Gen 3. Bought it when I read about it on this blog about a year ago.
