Weekend down in Gjeving / Lyngør
The first weekend in September I was invited down to Gjeving to enjoy some active days. It was perfect, and so, so peaceful! We only saw a few families and they all came there to take up their boats and close down their cabins for the winter. So lets start with a clear sign that the autumn is on it’s way:
We had brilliant weather, with temperatures around 20 degrees. Perfect for walks with little Julia, but also for fishing, kayaking and running. On Saturday we also took the boat out to Lyngør.
In 1991 was Lyngør voted Europe’s best preserved village, but is also known for the great naval battle fought between the Danish-Norwegian and the English fleet (July 6, 1812).
Lyngør is only accessible by boat, and has no cars. The small community has charming wooden houses. Sadly, most of the buildings are now summer homes, but there are a few year-round residents left. There are a few restaurants that are open during the tourist season, but they were all closed down when we were there. And I shouldn’t forget that Lyngør has a famous general store.
I learned that kayaking was not my strongest side. Well, I should have known better. It was the first time in my life that I sat in a kayak. It ended up almost being more painful then fun. I guess my biggest concern and problem was that I was to affraid of going around with the kayak. The temperature in the sea was only 14-15 degrees.
Jumping from the boat wasn’t cold, it was beyond that: Pure pain! I hope that I will not be challanged again.
So when not doing stupid things, we were mostly on the balconny enjoying the sun, eating seafood and BBQing. There is nothing like “Ræger fra Sørlandet” (shrimps). Life can be so good!
It’s good to be back. I haven’t had time to write on my blog for months. But I can finally say that getting established in a new apartment, and I hope that I will have more time for writing. I have been spending most of the Sunday uploading pictures to my Flickr account and tag them. Next article on my blog will be about my trip in Jotunheimen this summer.
