Yesterday, me and Volker went to one of the best concerts I’ve been to in years. It all started with me reading an e-mail from Parkteatret about concerts they were to hold this month. Camera Obscura was the first one on the list, and I checked if there were many people on Underskog.no going or recommending them. I was surprised how many there were. I did a search on Spotify, and found them to be listed. I ended up playing them most of the day at work.

Camera Obscura’s (Latin for ‘dark room’; literally ‘darkened chamber’) music was picturish, and yesterday Parkteatret was transformed in to a time machine that brought us back to Aidensfield and the popular Heartbeat TV-series and the sound of the 50s-60s. An old, classic, musical world. The band has delivered a steady stream of critically acclaimed albums. Their last record My Maudlin Career is simply breathtaking, and it’s their most accomplished album to date. I loved the resonant air of melancholy throughout it’s eleven tracks.

Volker summed up the evening in a great way on his last Facebook update yesterday: “wants to get a car and drive through Scotland, with Camera Obscura playing on the backseat. Damn pity that there is no car that can fit a band of six with instruments on the back seat… Well, a CD will have to do”.

Make sure to check out their web site and their MySpace page, you will find that Camera Obscura plays great retro styled twee-pop. The band is currently touring around in Europe, and might be visiting a city near you!
