Well, that is not the reason why I chose HD DVD as my next generation of media for movies at home. But appearently Blue-ray owners have ran in to a huge problem: The Blue-ray disc coating (the protecting surface) has started rottening on versions of “The Prestige”. Why only this one movie? Tonight I watched the best HD DVD that I have purchased so far. We all know it a great movie, but on HD DVD the picture is just breath taking on my 720p LCD TV! Black levels are solid and colors are vibrant. There’s no artifacting, noise, or problematic crush and there’s only a slight bit of grain that gives the picture dimension and depth. According to Betanews Toshiba has started shipments shipments of their new HD-A20 HD DVD player. The player is the first of the high-definition players, either Blu-ray or HD DVD, to offer 1080p resolution for about 2.700 NOK (US $ 400). The player is equipped with a HDMI-connection (1.3) and networking capabilities, and is capable of upscaling ordinary DVDs to near HD quality according to Toshiba. I am excited, and I have locked myself in for the weekend to test out my XBOX360 with HDTV projector, a long with the next generation of home movies. The projector that I have borrowed is Mitsubishi Electronic HC5000. For now I only have three HD DVD movies, Poseidon, V for Vandetta and Serenity. This week I got my XBOX 360 HD DVD player. In fact I got it two days before the official release here in Norway – February 23rd. This week I also updated my laptop to Windows Vista Ultimate. The Enterprise edition didn’t have the Media Center included. I haven’t really had the time to play with the final version of the Media Center or to try the XBOX with the HD DVD player.
