According to Betanews Toshiba has started shipments shipments of their new HD-A20 HD DVD player. The player is the first of the high-definition players, either Blu-ray or HD DVD, to offer 1080p resolution for about 2.700 NOK (US $ 400). The player is equipped with a HDMI-connection (1.3) and networking capabilities, and is capable of upscaling ordinary DVDs to near HD quality according to Toshiba. I am excited, and I have locked myself in for the weekend to test out my XBOX360 with HDTV projector, a long with the next generation of home movies. The projector that I have borrowed is Mitsubishi Electronic HC5000. For now I only have three HD DVD movies, Poseidon, V for Vandetta and Serenity. This week I got my XBOX 360 HD DVD player. In fact I got it two days before the official release here in Norway – February 23rd. This week I also updated my laptop to Windows Vista Ultimate. The Enterprise edition didn’t have the Media Center included. I haven’t really had the time to play with the final version of the Media Center or to try the XBOX with the HD DVD player. Don’t get me wrong, I am not using Bittorrent or any other P2P service to download movies. I buy them. I have a huge LaserDisc and DVD collection, and have gotten my first HD DVD movie and have one ordered. But what I do not accept is that the movie industry should have a right to dictate how and when I can enjoy a movie.
