According to Betanews Toshiba has started shipments shipments of their new HD-A20 HD DVD player. The player is the first of the high-definition players, either Blu-ray or HD DVD, to offer 1080p resolution for about 2.700 NOK (US $ 400). The player is equipped with a HDMI-connection (1.3) and networking capabilities, and is capable of upscaling ordinary DVDs to near HD quality according to Toshiba. I am excited, and I have locked myself in for the weekend to test out my XBOX360 with HDTV projector, a long with the next generation of home movies. The projector that I have borrowed is Mitsubishi Electronic HC5000. For now I only have three HD DVD movies, Poseidon, V for Vandetta and Serenity. The HD DVD Edition of Serenity seems to have been selling well, cause Play.com has been temporarily soldout for ages. Being Firefly addicted, the movie was of course the first one I ordered. This week I got my XBOX 360 HD DVD player. In fact I got it two days before the official release here in Norway – February 23rd. This week I also updated my laptop to Windows Vista Ultimate. The Enterprise edition didn’t have the Media Center included. I haven’t really had the time to play with the final version of the Media Center or to try the XBOX with the HD DVD player. Don’t get me wrong, I am not using Bittorrent or any other P2P service to download movies. I buy them. I have a huge LaserDisc and DVD collection, and have gotten my first HD DVD movie and have one ordered. But what I do not accept is that the movie industry should have a right to dictate how and when I can enjoy a movie.
