Moblin v2.0 – Has the perfect Netbook OS just been released?

0

I have only read the announcement on the Moblin blog and seen the following video released on Youtube:

The Moblin v2.0 user experience has been designed from the ground up to provide unique ways to engage with the internet, aggregate your social networking activity, and enjoy your media content. The new user experience and core applications were developed using the Clutter animation framework, leveraging heavily from GL and the physics engine.

It looks impressively good. Congrats to all the developers that have been involved.

My question is, will Moblin also work on old Dell Latitude D410s? I have one in the office and it will be tested!

Well put!

I often read what Thom Holwerda is publishing on OSNEWS, and yesterday he published some critics of Mark Shuttleworth. His critics are so in place. How many times have we heard that this is gonna be the year of Linux?

I guess every year since 2001. And the same goes with the sentence: Now Linux is ready for the desktop. Funny thing is, Linux is not to be the preferred OS for the desktop any time soon. It is not gain enough market share to make it interesting. And market leading software is in most cases still not available for the plattform.

My take: Windows 7 is gonna be a huge success!

Is Nvidia to save the Windows Mobile platform?

The user interface is as ugly as it can get, but what you see in this Youtube video is impressive:

The Nvidia HD AVP (High Definition Audio Video Processor) with NVIDIA® PureVideo® technology currently able to run both the embedded operating systems Android and Windows Mobile. And the developer board used in the video let the developer do dual-boots of the two embedded systems. The HD AVP platform lets users both capture and playback HD 720p movies on mobile devices mobile device (and can through a HDMI output present videos and slideshows on HDTVs). Video playbacks can for the first time be done with low CPU usage and power consumption on mobile devices.

Novell has summed up what Linux is all about, in a half minutes video:

Copying every thing from inovative vendors, now even their commercials.

Brilliant blog post: Windows Update versus Ubuntu Update

0

Before I continue: I use Windows Vista, Ubuntu 8.04 and MacOS X 10.5, but I am quite tired of the constant bashing of how bad Windows Vista is. I totally disagree, for several reasons, one of them is this:

A few months ago, Steve Ballmer publicly noted that Windows Vista was “a work in progress.” …

The reality? All modern operating systems used as mainstream business and consumer platforms are “works in progress” and require frequent updates to fix bugs and resolve security issues (and occasionally to add features).

Don’t believe me? Then here’s food for your thoughts.
