Trash finally being cleaned up

0

It’s already been almost four years since I wrote about the 20 villages in Hungary, that got delivered a total of 4.000 tons of rubbish from Germany! According to the county police of Bács-Kiskun Megye the trash (especially electronics and waste from private households) was unlegally imported in a period from July to December 2006. The trash was brought to Hungary from Bavaria and Baden-Württenberg. About 25 tons ended up in Mindszent.

Today I could finally read that next week the trash will get removed by A. S. A. Hódmezővásárhely Köztisztasági Kft., and that Mindszent will not have to pay anything!

Lots of photo taken

On Thursday I came back to Norway after having been two weeks in Mindszent, Hungary. Two weeks with beautiful spring and temperatures as high as 26-27 degrees most of the time. It was also two weeks spent with family and friends.

Lots of photos were taken, and they are now all available on my Flickr account as two photo sets: Julia and Mindszent 2009. As you can see from this blog entry, I spent some time on getting to know my SLR camera and Lightroom.

Home in Oslo I yesterday visited Fotovideo, and had a look at Nikon 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 G IF-ED AF-S VR lense. I want to be able to do shots from distance, especially of animals and flowers. I saw lots of animals in Mindszent this time, animals like deer, lots of rabbits and pheasants, some falcons or eagles, a few white storks and great white egrets. And I could hear a woodpecker from time to time. But with 18-55mm I could simply not get close enough.

The lense got tested, and “flower” was shot with the full use of the lense. It was about 7-8 meters away:
Flower? So the lense is something I will try to buy when I finished renewing my appartment. What I ended up buying yesterday was a tripod for my camera. I ended up with Benro A-157, and then went up to Akerselva and did photos of the wild river (snow is melting up in the mountains around Oslo):

Some enjoyable moments in Mindszent

Days in Heaven …

It is Easter and the whole family has been down at the summer house in Mindszent. It has more or less become a tradition that the holidays are spent down here. And why not? It is after all Hungary at the greenest, and during the last couple of summers the temperature has often been to high.

My running track

The spring came with sun and nice temperatures just days before I arrived. So next to working remotely, there has been some nice walks, running on the dykes, sunbading and lots of time spent with family.

The Temperature

26-27 degrees for several days in a row early April. It is hard to resist! Within days the whole garden was blooming, and I have taken tons of pictures that I have uploaded to Flickr.

I have my excuse, as I have been trying learn how to use my Nikon D60 SLR. I even brought with me the manuals! It has not been easy, and I have shot many dark pictures, but also been lucky and gotten some beautiful pictures from sunsets.

These two photos were taken down by the beach in Mindszent. It was not the perfect spot for sunset photos.

One afternoon was spent in Szeged, with a quick walk down the main street, a visit to Kis Virág and two hours out at Szeged Plaza, a shopping mal with cinema, bowling and a few restaurants.

ice, ice, baby ...

In between working, there was always time to play with Julia. She was crying a lot the two first days, and we guess that it was cause of the big change in temperature and that she needed time to adjust. On the third day she woke with a smile and have been playing with all of us through the days. I enjoyed catching the moments both on photos and video.

Julia

Ain’t she cool with her first pair of sunglasses?

Cause of the nice, warm spring weather Espen and Aleksandra decided to buy Julia her first set of summer clothes. Of course that had to be put down in pictures:

It is truely my hometown. It is where I feel home and can relax. And luckily I have a few more days down here. Tomorrow I will get together with my friends. The pub next door is having a retro party. And I wonder where to buy my clothes …

I have to end this blog entry as I promised myself some cake today. A new placed have opened selling cakes and ice cream. Yummy …

I whish you and yours a peaceful and enjoyable Easter. Several photos have been made available on my Flickr account.

Heating with corn in Mindszent

0

Just a few weeks ago Hungarian media wrote that people in the Baranya County village of Geresdlak had begun to burn old Hungarian banknotes in order to stay warm.

Two days ago I read about farmers in my mother’s hometown Mindszent, Csongrád County, heating their homes by burning corn. Here is why: The price of firewood is HUF 2,500- HUF 2,800 per mázsa (100 kilos), while buyers pay HUF 1,800 for corn, a seven-year-low, and down from HUF 5,000 last year.

Today I visited my parents, and together we watched the evening news on Duna TV. The world gets small when you know the man that gets interviewed, just as I have had discussions with the farmer pictured in Delmagyar’s article. You get so much closer to the happenings. I guess this is just another untold story, not much has been written about how bad the finance crises have hit (the poorest parts of) Hungary.

New Heat Records in Mindszent, Hungary

0

I have always heard my dad say: Don’t leave for Hungary in the summer, it’s to warm! Yes, true. But when then, when not in September either? Cause this year, it is just about as warm as the warmest days in July/August. I was down then. The Hungarian newspaper Délmagyar.hu today wrote that a new heat record was set for the city yesterday: 32,8 degrees. Warmest ever measured in September. The forecast says that the temperature is gonna raise till Sunday:

The Weather in Mindszent Early in September

The small town Mindszent and it’s surrounding areas haven’t had rain since end of July. Hopefully they will get some drops next week!

Update Sept. 7th: Yesterday a new heat record was set in Szeged 36,7 degrees, and today a new heat record was set again! An amazing 37,6 degrees. The overall heat record messaured in Hungary in September is 38,2 degrees.
