The last couple of days rumors have it that something is brewing between Google and Ebay’s Skype. I am a frequent user of Skype and it is the solution that we have chosen for VoIP and video conferences at my faculty. But, I had problems with seeing how Skype could bigger money and what Ebay saw in Skype. Skype’s two major problems have been that they had to make PC-to-PC calls free (to compete with MSN, Yahoo and Google Talk) and the second problem was to compete with traditional […] Continue reading →
Are you one of the many that recently have bought a HTC phone? I am at least, it’s my work phone. Privately I am using Nokia E60. It was with great joy I read that Fring now was made available for Windows Mobile 5 and 6. The Windows Mobile version has the same features as the Symbian one. In short, free calls over the following protocols: Fring, Skype, Google Talk, MSN and SIP. It was just as easy to set up the Windows Mobile version as the Symbian one, and I should really have a look […] Continue reading →
I tend to pop in read the blog aggregator at Skype once a week, reading about the development of the VoIP client. It is still my prefered way of communicate, simply cause most of my friends and colleagues are using it. But is far from the best, Google Talk seems to be superior when it comes to sound quality. The possibility to charge somebody when calling […] Continue reading →
I guess this might be the next big thing for VoIP. I am at least mighty impressed! I have for some time been looking for a new mobilephone, and today I bought a Nokia E60 for 1 NOK, simply cause it has built in wifi. Why? I wanted to start using Fring. Fring is for now at least free, and is a multi IM client supporting Google Talk, Skype and MSN. Fring is making use of a patent pending P2P Mobile VoIP technology. The requirements are a Nokia Symbian-based phone with GPRS, UMTS and wifi. As […] Continue reading →
I have long known the problems Skype is causing being a P2P program, and that many sysadmins have forbidden all use of it. Today I read that the Computer Department over at CERN has forbidden all use of Skype P2P software. Just a few moments earlier I read in the Skype Journal that there now also was a video plugin available. It’s called Video4Skype, what a surprise. I’m still gonna continue using Skype at home, together with my other VoIP solution, the Norwegian telio. Some of […] Continue reading →
