Madrid – A pleasant surprise!

0

I love writing about places that I visit, I guess just as much as the travel itself! In November I visited a friend of mine in Madrid before attending the annual Tech-Ed in Barcelona. I was quite surprised, as I favored Madrid of the two cities. Don’t get me wrong, both cities are beautiful and worth a visit!

From travel books and “Top 10 things to see” you can read that one of the most recommended things to do in Madrid is to take a “walking tour” of Madrid. I will not try to do a “Top 10 things to see”, but let us see where we end …

Val Thorens

0

For the first time I have traveled to the Alps on a skiing holiday. The last week I have been on a Langley package tour to Val Thorens with friends. Some of us have travelled together before, obviously my sister and me, but also Geir and Sigrid (Biarritz and Bayonne), and Steinar (Budapest and Balaton). But it was the first time that I was to travel with Espen (my sister’s boyfriend), Angelica (Steinar’s girlfriend), Trude and Marius. Geir and Marius were traveling on their own, and arrived later then us (and continued their travel to Chamonix).

This was also the first time that I have traveled on a package tour. I have never even been on such a trip to Canary Islands, as so many Norwegians have. And to be honest, I found it a bit to chaotic! Please bare with me as I get out all my frustration as I think you will enjoy the last part of this summary.

Go and fetch a cup of coffee before you continue to read …

Ready for the winter!

Bataleon GoliathHappy New Year to All of You!

- 1st blog entry of the year.

It’s been snowing in Oslo tonight, and all I can think of is the first snowboard trip for the season. Why? Have a look at my new snowboard, a Bataleon Goliath board, that I bought at the local snowboard shop. A cool snowboard with a ‘A Clockwork Orange’ motive. I also bought a pair of Forum bindings.

As I’m going for a week to Val Thorens this winter, my sister bought me a back protector and a pair of snowboard gloves with integrated wrist protection. I already have protection for my elbows and knees, but should be buying myself a helmet.

I hope there will be some trips to ski resorts also in Norway, it would be great getting at least 2-3 trips to Norefjell, Hemsedal or Trysil.

Let the battle begin!

Wizz Air logoNorwegian has been flying Gardemoen – Budapest for years already, and have until now been alone on flying direct. Norwegian will also be flying Rygge – Budapest from upcoming spring. Their planes on the first route has always been more or less full, and the tickets have cause of this become a bit more expensive. But from next summer this might change, as the Hungarian low fair airline Wizz Air will start flying to Torp on June 26th. Here is some lines from their press release of today:

Wizz Air, the largest low cost airline based in CEE recently announced a series of developments from its bases in Hungary and Poland.

The airline said, that it would expand its Budapest operations next summer by adding 15 new weekly flights compared to summer 2007 or 27% more capacity. The airline will increase frequencies on most of its current routes, add Goteborg, Oslo-Torp and Venice-Treviso to its Budapest network and reintroduce the popular summer seasonal flights to Bulgaria (Bourgas and Varna), Spain (Barcelona-Girona and Palma de Mallorca) and Greece (Corfu, Rhodes and Heraklion).

Great to see that I will be getting cheaper tickets to Hungary from next year on, as according to Boarding.no prices will start at 199 NOK (incl. handling fees and taxes). Bus tickets will come on top of that.

Some beautiful days in Mindszent

Mindszent Beach

After the extreme heat we have gotten some beautiful days, with in between 30-35 degrees. I know, I know, normally I would have complained a lot, but after a week with temperatures above 40 degrees, this feels quite nice.

I have more or less spent every afternoon of my holidays on the beautiful, renewed beach in Mindszent. During the worst heat, more then a 1.000 people found their way here, but after the temperature went down again to acceptable, there have been in between 50-100 people.

The Pubs at Mindszent Beach

In the evenings, I enjoyed a limonade or a beer at one of the two pubs down at the beach. I get about ten beers for the price of one in Oslo, so I cannot complain. Not that I drank that many … And of course, I don’t miss Ringnes.
